Finca La Bolsa was established in 1958 by Dr. Jorge Vides, a distinguished medical professional who transformed unused land into one of Huehuetenango’s most respected coffee farms. His contributions to both coffee and the local community were so significant that the main hospital in the region was named in his honour.
La Bolsa gained international recognition in 2002 when it placed second in the prestigious Cup of Excellence, scoring an outstanding 94.98. Nestled between two mountains, the farm benefits from a humid, stable microclimate and limestone-rich soils. These conditions, paired with meticulous washed processing, create a coffee with a syrupy body, bright malic and citric acidity, and remarkable depth.
The Vides family are also leaders in sustainability and social impact. The farm is RFA-certified, follows C.A.F.E Practices guidelines, and has invested in education by building a school and nursery for workers’ children. Through a unique food donation program that rewards school attendance, child labour on the farm has been completely eliminated.
